 FORGIVENESS,

LOVE & LIGHT

 & LOVING-KINDNESS

               MEDITATION

                    flowerMetta

And I saw the river

Over which every soul must pass
To reach the kingdom of heaven
And the name of the river was suffering –
And I saw the boat
Which carries souls across the river

And the name of that boat was - Love.

---Saint John of the Cross

I was moved by St John's prayer the other day. It touched my soul so deeply that I decided to share that with you. We do suffer in life and often times we find that life is full of challenges – big and small and yet, during those times, in most cases, we find someone or within ourselves the boat we can cross the river of suffering, the boat built of love energy.

Love is a powerful energy – it can change, transform and heal. Osho, the Hindu philosopher, said that when you meet your soul, love becomes your shadow. It will be with you everywhere - no need to look for it because you will become that LOVE. And that is kind of love which can do miracles and can make us the most happy and loving beings. Meeting your own soul and finding that light within one self have the power that heals. And when you are LOVE you will never come to people from a greedy or needy position.

There is no need to ‘waste time’ for searching for Love, as Rumi, beautiful Sufi poet says, “Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

Finding your own Light, being the Love – these are the keys to healing, growing and finding happiness. We do have a need to heal others, to reach out in compassion and kindness. However, it takes courage to connect and listen to our own soul. Our journey of being Love and Light is a journey towards wholeness, congruency, empowerment…and that is coming from knowing oneself.

The journey of self knowledge is not an easy but necessary trip! We live in the fast growing and changing world where the words such as ‘profit’ and ‘economics’ control our lives. We often lose touch with our values, ethics, and morals and follow the crowd of blindly let people. It’s not the easiest job to stay true to our own values but its necessary!

The journey of self knowledge is a soul journey. To listen and respect the body, to listen to the inner guidance, the source, our soul, the light we all carry within and which, often times, is hidden behind our fears, old programs, or old beliefs. 90% of our beliefs we are learning while we are young. So it’s good to stop from time to time and check them and see what works for us and what doesn’t. Jung said that ‘Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will run your life, and you will call it fate’. Make them more conscious and you will start creating your own destiny.

Our journey is also towards empowering other people; not being afraid of doing that but having the courage and honesty to empower others. That is a very important point – not being afraid to shine your light on other people.

In the healing world if something is happening to us that makes us uncomfortable, angry or frustrated, we would say that: ‘it’s never about the other person…it’s about us’. It’s us who do need to change the view; it’s us who need to work on our attitude and beliefs; it’s us who might need the healing. We have to own it and take responsibility for our thoughts and behavior. If we change ourselves then the world, the way we view the world, will change also. If we start looking at ourselves and others with more compassionate, understanding and loving heart we might see different world. In those challenging times, when we look for a boat, the question to ask yourself is not, "why is this happening to me?" yet rather "what can I do to transcend this vicious cycle?"

There is another big healing force we call it – forgiveness. ‘The moment you choose forgiveness your energy shifts from living in the spinning wheels up in your head, and down into the kingdom of love, empowerment and abundance of the heart where the bliss of pure being abides.’ You don’t need any reason to forgive – yourself or others. The only reason is that you know that when you forgive your whole energy will shift. The greatest secret to healing your life is to turn forgiveness into a habit. When the heart is cleansed by forgiveness, love will enter and make this beautiful place its home. And when you are in that loving state, in the harmony with yourself and the universe you will always choose the best path/you will always make the best choices.

‘…The whole life, through love, becomes a gift of the divine, and then you feel grateful. And out of gratitude arises the fragrance of prayer. It’s a very subtle process: from love, acceptance of yourself and the other, through Love’s acceptance, a transformation, and a vision that howsoever, whatsoever you are, you are perfect and the whole accepts you. Then a gratitude, then arises a prayer. It’s not verbal; simply the whole heart is filled with gratitude.

The glimpse will come from love. Have you ever been in love? – then you breathe in love, then you walk in love. Then your step has a quality of dance in it even visible to others. Then your eyes have a light, a different light to them. Then your face has a glow. Then your voice has a song in it.

So don’t be scared of love. Die into love so that you can be reborn. Lose yourself into love so that you can become fresh and young again…’

- from ‘Yoga moving to the center’ by Osho

In the Buddhist tradition there is a beautiful Metta Meditation that helps to move those energies of forgiveness and love and bring the shift, transform and heal.

I would like to share it here with you:

LOVING-KINDNESS MEDITATION – FORGIVNESS

a guided meditation by Ven. Ayya Khema

"Please put the attention on the breath. Have forgiveness in your heart for anything you think you've done wrong. Forgive yourself for all the past omissions and commissions. They are long gone. Understand that you were a different person and this one is forgiving that one that you were. Feel that forgiveness filling you and enveloping you with a sense of warmth and ease.

Think of your parents. Forgive them for anything you have ever blamed them for. Understand that they too are different now. Let this forgiveness fill them, surround them, knowing in your heart that this is your most wonderful way of togetherness.

Think of your nearest and dearest people. Forgive them for anything that you think they have done wrong or are doing wrong at this time. Fill them with your forgiveness. Let them feel that you accept them. Let that forgiveness fill them. Realizing that this is your expression of love.

Now think of your friends. Forgive them for anything you have disliked about them. Let your forgiveness reach out to them, so that they can be filled with it, embraced by it.

Think of the people you know, whoever they might be, and forgive them all for whatever it is that you have blamed them for; that you have judged them for; that you have disliked. Let your forgiveness fill their hearts, surround them, envelope them, be your expression of love for them.

Now think of any special person whom you really need to forgive. Towards whom you still have resentment, rejection, and dislike. Forgive him or her fully. Remember that everyone has dukkha (sorrow, suffering). Let this forgiveness come from your heart. Reach out to that person, complete and total.

Think of any one person, or any situation, or any group of people whom you are condemning, blaming, disliking. Forgive them, completely. Let your forgiveness be your expression of unconditional love. They may not do the right things. Human beings have dukkha. And your heart needs the forgiveness in order to have purity of love.

Have a look again and see whether there's anyone or anything, any where in the world, towards whom you have blame or condemnation. And forgive the people or the person, so that there is no separation in your heart.

Now put your attention back on yourself. And recognize the goodness in you. The effort you are making. Feel the warmth and ease that comes from forgiveness."

May all beings have forgiveness in their hearts!

May you always be happy,

May you always be healthy,

May you always be blessed.

With Love & Light
